Founded in 1998, Google’s search engine is by far the most dominant offering of the Internet giant, but did you know that Google also has an enormous appetite for tricks and quirks? We bet you will ‘Google,’ these tricks once you find out.

1. GOOGLE GRAVITY

Well, to be fair, Google knew no one would coincidentally write ‘Google Gravity’ in the Google search panel and hit ‘I’m Feeling Lucky.’

Don’t be surprised, for what follows is one of the many hidden tricks Google has concealed in its gargantuan existence. Once you see “the trick,” try typing anything in the search bar, Google would still work just fine with one little “downside.”

(Note: In case you have checked the ‘Google’s instant results’ it would be a bit difficult, for ease of use disable the option in your account preferences)

2. BARREL ROLL

This one is just a little cheesy. Go to Google Search bar and write, “Do a Barrel Roll.” Try it with and without ‘instant result’ mode enabled.

3. RECURSION

google recursion

This one is a little clever from Google. If you happen to write recursion in the search bar, the search result will always – always include “Did you mean: recursion” even though your spelling would be correct.

Recursion, which linguistically denotes the irritating habit of repeating oneself, is Google’s way of poking at its users.

4. GOOGLE LOCH NESS

If you coincidentally have iGoogle beach theme installed for your Google search page and you are also awake at 3:14 in the morning. You would see a surprise, coming out from the sea in the theme behind people.

The reason for choosing 3:14 precisely is not specific from Google; however, one proposition is that 314 are the first three digits in the mathematical constant Pi. (Note: If you can’t wait till 3:14 A.M, you can always change the time on your computer.

5. ANAGRAM

Much like the ‘recursion’ response, Google again shows its humorous side if you search for ‘Anagram’ (rearranging the letters in a word to make a new word or phrase, in case you did not know).

google anagram

Google rearranges the alphabets in Anagram – asking if you meant “Nag a Ram.” If you do happen to click on ‘Nag a Ram,’ you would understand the popularity of this particular geeky joke by Google.

6. PACMAN

A Google Doodle launched three years ago, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Pacman, Google Pacman got so famous and widely played that Google has still kept it in its home.

7. THE EPIC CHUCK NORRIS JOKE

Because Chuck Norris jokes never get old, seriously – they don’t age. Google even warns you of trying to find ‘Chuck Norris.’ If you don’t trust us – for which we can’t blame you – try searching and clicking, I’m feeling lucky.

8. LAUNDRY

Gmail has had been helpful, and God is witnessed; it has done a lot for all of us. The only thing left is for Gmail to do our laundry for our wait.

Go to ‘Suggest a Feature’ in your Gmail and click on Helpful addition and look at the last “suggestion.”

9. PATH TO MORDOR

For all the Lord of the Rings followers, Google Maps knows the way to Mordor – and apparently, it’s just on the outskirts of Cape Town, South Africa.

google mordor

Try to get walking directions from “The Shire” or “Rivendell” to “Mordor” (just type in words and ignore all the auto-complete suggestions that pop up); Google will give you the route… and an apt warning.

10. DOODLES

For all of you think, Google takes down all the interactive Doodles it launches once the event is over, there is a surprise for you in stock, literally.

If you leave the search bar empty and hit the magical “I’m Feeling Lucky,” what do you think will happen? Nothing or Something strange? Well, there is one straightforward way to find out.

Other Surprises include Google Pirate version, create your own Search Home Page with “Goglogo” and search for“Askew” on Google (Askew – means not in a straight or leveled position).

For those who speak Geek, search ‘Binary” on Google and watch as Google puts down the results in 1,0,1,0.

Lastly, for all the Google Docs and spreadsheet users, try pressing “Shift + F12” on your Keyboard to kill Dragons on your Google Docs.
