Fashion has always found a great medium to Chanel itself. From campaigns to advertisements and fashion shows, fashion is always extra and over the top. When it comes to fashion, the bigger, the better, and this mantra is limited to apparel and fashion magazines, editorials, and fashion shows. Those days are gone when we just needed a piece on a model on the runway to showcase the art and the artist. Now, a lot of effort goes in, be it photography, makeup, production design, or fashion shows.
Every year, we get to observe the holy round of fashion shows. From models donning to designer wear and stunning locations like Milan and Paris, fashion breathes air in our lives every year. And when it comes to fashion shows, how can we not think about the extravagant location where the craziest runway shows are held. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, then keep reading because your mind is about to blow off.
1. Chanel, Autumn/Winter 2017, Ready-To-Wear
No one does fashion shows like Chanel. The French designer brand is known for holding one of the most extravagant fashion shows in the most unbelievable locations. Chanel’s Autumn/Winter 2017 was quite literally out of this world. The show took place in the iconic Grand Palais. Chanel created their very own makeshift space station, with a life-sized Chanel rocket ship stationed right in the middle of the runway.
The collection was inspired by outer space and featured lots of metallic boots, spacesuit printed dresses, space shawls, and galactic prints. And to top of the finale, the rocket was not just a prop actually blasted off (not quite into space) but 10-meters into the air, with lots of smoke and Elton John’s ‘Rocket Man’ blaring in the background.
2.Chanel, Autumn/Winter 2014 Ready-To-Wear
Since the pandemic hit mother earth in 2019, we can only think about dressing up to the grocery store. Well, as much as it sounds bizarre, Chanel actually normalized dressing up for grocery shopping back in 2014. For its 2014 fashion show, Chanel created an entire grocery store replica, which included more than 100,000 items. The labels of at least 500 everyday products had been repackaged and labeled.
Now is your chance to dress up for your next grocery run if you haven’t already.
3. Pierre Cardin’s Palais Bulle
Fashion designer Pierre Cardin’s Palais Bulles (Bubble Palace) was a location for Dior’s Cruise 2016 collection. The exotic location, which is located between Cannes and Monaco, is one of the dreamiest locations for a fashion show to date. From bright colors to pastel hues, the outfits matched perfectly with the clean aesthetic of the palace.
4. Gucci, Westminster Abbey
The glorious presentation was not only charming but also a cultural reset. Gucci’s 2017 cruise collection was a mixture of cool punk aesthetics with a blend of historical views. The wide variety of patterns including plaid, leopard, florals to solid colors, and bold accessories. Everything was a mixture that blended perfectly with the church’s aesthetic.
5. A Provence Lavender Field
Jacquemus fashion house celebrated its 10th anniversary in the midst of a lavender field. The French designer chose the field of his native province, revisiting tradition, which included everything nature and beauty. The fuchsia pink carpet snaking a furrow between the purple rows, providing the perfect frame to showcase his creations. This has to be one of the most beautiful fashion show runways to date.
