Cracked heels— we already know someone going through this annoying winter-related problem. If you yourself are too, get on with this list to solve it as soon as possible. While socks nowadays and COVID-19 may have helped you hide them, you can’t hide much longer.
What Causes Cracked Heels?
Cracked heels are your heel’s way of coping with the pressure put on it throughout the day. If you typically stand or walk more in your day, you’re more likely to have cracked heels. This is also worsened by the chances of your skin being dry— which happens a lot in winters. The build-up of dead skin cells can also be a huge contributor. So while all of these things may be happening together, how can you fix it?
1. Socks and Vaseline
Before sleeping every night, slop huge chunks of vaseline on your heels and put socks on and sleep. This helps because vaseline is an occlusive that doesn’t let the moisture leave your feet. Keeping socks on also ensures the moisture gets seeped into your feet for sure and the air doesn’t dry them out.

2. Take Off Dead Skin
Get a foot scrubber or go for a good ol’ pedi. This will help in sloughing off dead skin from your heels to reveal the softer, new skin. Onwards of this, ensure your feet are properly moisturised so you can retain the soft skin.
3. Soak Feet Once A Week
Soaking your feet once a week also helps in scrubbing off the dead skin and moisturising your feet. It really helps to squeeze a lemon in lukewarm water and keep your feet in them for about 20 minutes.
4. Wear Properly Sizes Shoes
If you’re particularly suffering from cracked heels, avoid wearing slip-on shoes or loose shoes. The constant rubbing of the heels with the shoe can cause callous skin on the heel and even give blisters often, making your skin split.
5. Coconut Oil Massage
Coconut oil can do wonders for your feet. The moisturising oil is excellent for your cracked heels and massaging it ensures that the moisture is able to seep in properly on your dry feet. Bribe someone for a massage or treat yourself to it at a salon asap!
