Pakistani drama industry has the experience of grabbing the attention of the audience and earning appreciation from the masses while striking the right chord amongst viewers. Pakistani dramas have always held a special place in the hearts of people since they explored the subjects which people can resonate with.
However, over time, the Pakistani entertainment industry has lost its charm and has failed to deliver the audience with dramas like Ankahi, Dhuwan, or even Dhoop Kinare.
The Pakistani drama industry shifted the focus on quantity instead of quality; this is the reason where every year, there are a handful of dramas that leave an impact and become unforgettable, whereas there are a lot more in number that fails to do so.
On the other hand, the overnight popularity that the Turkish period drama Etrugrul Ghazi has garnered in Pakistan is worth lauding. It’s high time our directors and writers learn a thing or two from the series.
So, here’s what we think our directors need to take a note of:
1. Infotainment:Â
Drama serial Dirilis: Ertugrul is packed with information and has a huge chunk that focuses on entertaining the masses. Our directors must leave the nest of saas-bahu dramas and start working on something out of the box.
2. Understand that the Pakistani audience is intelligent
The fact that more than half of the audience is head over heels in love with Dirilis: Ertugrul is because it brings more to the table, and producers can’t keep the Pakistani audience under the trance of lousy content. The reason why the audience begins to watch the Turkish series proves how we need fresh content.
Our drama makers must bring in strong characters along with a strong plot to impress the viewers if they wish to make a mark.
3. Work on more genres
Ertugrul Ghazi’s plot and genre are different; this should serve as an eye-opener to the Pakistani drama makers that it is perfectly fine to explore different domains and styles. It keeps the quotient of novelty and makes the viewers happy. Not every drama should be a historical or period drama, but every once in a while, such shows or even more genres should be explored.
4. They should take pride in Islamic history
Islamic history is rich and has so much to offer that can be played with and brought to the audience. It’s about time that Pakistani drama makers take pride in Islamic history and show the masses how to work around a script.
5. Quality content is crucialÂ
The bitter truth of our industry is that it focuses on high TRP’s over decent content. Dirilis: Ertugrul has broken all the records of ratings in Pakistan, which has been surprising to almost all the people related to the showbiz industry. We, as an audience, deserve content that highlights issues besides cheating wives and domestic violence.
