The Pakistan Council of Research for Water Resources (PCRWR) has declared 5 local mineral water-bottle brands as unfit for consumption.
After testing, it was found that the water samples contained microbiological contaminations which cause cholera, diarrhoea, dysentery, hepatitis, typhoid etc.
PCRWR then issued a public service notice to alert individuals not to purchase water bottles from the following brands;
- Gourmet
- Aqua Super Life
- Shiraz
- Aqua Splash
- Marina

According to the reports, the quality of these brands has been compromised due to biological contamination from human waste, as well as being exposed to chemical pollutants from industries and agricultural inputs.
Because industrial pipes are closely placed near water pipes, water-borne diseases have a high chance of being formed. According to a study by the World Health Organisation, 25-30% of diseases are in the form of gastrointestinal and are caused by low-quality water.
Due to the rise in cases, Pakistan through the Ministry of Science and Technology had given PCRWR the task of keeping an eye out on all small and big brands. A total of 85 samples were collected from April to June from Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Lahore, Bahawalpur, Tandojam, Quetta and Karachi.
