The introduction of 5G technology has created waves across the globe and is one of the top reasons behind the ban on Huawei in the USA.
While advanced technology is often delayed in Pakistan, this time around it is amongst the first countries to start preparing for the development of 5G. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has revealed the complete plan for testing and developing 5G network throughout the country.
The rapid growth in mobile data traffic and the demand for enhanced mobile broadband experience has increased the importance of a more reliable and advanced Internet quality on smartphones.
Therefore, Pakistan’s 4G market is ideal for investment and development of the new 5G technology for companies such as Huawei. It is anticipated that 5G will be much more successful in Pakistan and will provide great connectivity for a wide range of devices and applications.
The scope of International Mobile Telecommunications-2020 (IMT-2020 Standard) is much broader than the preceding generations of mobile broadband communications systems.
The framework for the development of 5G being set-up by PTA will facilitate the innovative use of radio spectrum on a trial basis on a non-commercial basis to better test its success in Pakistan. However, the trials will not be limited to scientific research only.
Government of Pakistan is inviting all of the stakeholders to participate in these subject trials. However, the companies that agree to take part will have to sign some terms and conditions with the government and must be registered with SECP (Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan) and/or PEC (Pakistan Engineering Council), R&D Organizations and Academic Institutions.
