When it comes to driving in Karachi, it is considered a whole other skill on its own. It might as well be something that people can add to their resumes. A person must develop a high sense of patience and endurance to be able to go from Point A to Point B in Karachi. Since the growth of the city is quite exponential, it is hard for the infrastructure to keep up at times. Traffic jams are a common sight in the city.
However, there are ways that you can develop such endurance while doing your daily commute. Karachi is a city of lights but it can feel quite tiresome to travel long routes every day. Thus, we bring to you a list of things that a regular person from Karachi has to endure every day. If nothing, it can help us gain more empathy towards one another.
1. The Potholes
With the ongoing construction projects all over the city, it can be seen that a lot of the roads are also being re-made. Thus, you might find yourself maneuvering your vehicle left and right to avoid potholes.
2. Dead Ends
It is not just the potholes that one has to be careful of. Often times, some areas are cordoned off due to the same type of construction or some other reason. In that case, Google Maps is not able to know it has been blocked and thus leads you to a dead end. Another thing to endure!
3. Karachi Traffic Jams
We cannot talk about the driving situation in Karachi without talking about the traffic jams. Leaving for anywhere between 6 pm to 8 pm on working days is a surefire way to get stuck. The traffic, combined with the noise and the emission is sure to give you a headache when your journey is complete.
4. Karachi Cricket Matches
It is not uncommon for the area around the National Stadium to have an enormous amount of traffic during match days. Not just that, when the teams are moving between the hotel and the stadium, the traffic is often stopped for 20 mins at a time.
5. Double Parking
People often park their cars parallel or perpendicular to another one that is parked beside the road. This makes the second car occupy the road and thus cause a traffic jam. This can be quite annoying as you have to force yourself to change lanes or other people have to do the same.
6. Cutting Through
if there is one thing you have to slow down your car for, its people cutting from near your car or in front of you. Be it a motorcyclist or a car driver, the behavior can be seen as the same.
These are just some of the ways through which a Karachiite is enduring their everyday commute. Let us take a moment to appreciate everyone who dares to venture out in such traffic every day.
