In 16th January 2017, Senator Tanveer Khan introduced the Ehtram-e-Ramazan amendment bill 2017 and referred to the Senate Standing Committee on Religious Affairs. It now has been unanimously adopted with the following restrictions:
For Hotel Owners
According to Ehtram-e-Ramazan Bill 2017, hotel owners who do not abide the Ehtram-e-Ramazan Ordinance, 1981 will be fined up to Rs25,000
Punishment for Smoking & Eating
Citizens caught openly smoking or eating during Ramazan will be fined Rs500. They will also be facing 3-month imprisonment.
For TV Channels & Cinema Houses
TV channels or cinema houses that will be caught violating the law will be fined Rs500,000 or more.
Senator Tanveer has declared that strict action will be taken against people who violate the law during Ramazan.
