New York’s Times Square is going to get even more tourists crowding its streets, with the opening of a 234-room resort hotel from singer Jimmy Buffett’s lifestyle brand Margaritaville.
In the heart of the city’s concrete jungle, Margaritaville will open a sprawling 29-story, tropical-themed resort complete with Tiki bars, palm trees and roof-top pool.
The resort brand better known for operating beachfront properties in sun-soaked places like Florida, the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas and Costa Rica announced plans to take over parts of Seventh Avenue by late 2020.
The pitch? To offer guests a “much-needed escape from the everyday” and bring a “no worries vibe” to the city.
The $300 million property will feature several Margaritaville-branded food and dining spaces, including a rooftop LandShark Bar & Grill, 5 o’Clock Somewhere Bar, and Floridays Airstream Café.
More than 40 years after releasing his signature song, Buffett has managed to parlay “Margaritaville” into a multi-billion-dollar empire that includes restaurants, casinos and resorts. Another 20 projects are currently in the pipeline.
Meanwhile, Hotel California in Todos Santos, Mexico may share a name with the iconic 1970s song from the Eagles, but that’s where the connection ends.
Earlier this year, the American band settled a lawsuit, stopping the hotelier from trademarking the name in the US.
The Mexican hotel was christened with the name long before the Eagles song was released.
