Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has shared its plans to introduce 5G technology in Pakistan. Reportedly, public trials will be conducted within the country.

The draft framework for test and development has been issued by the regulator on Wednesday.

According to PTA, the rapid growth and potential within the sector when it comes to mobile data has enhancedย mobile broadband experience leading toย an emphasis on the introduction of 5G in Pakistan.

Seen as a comprehensive wireless-access solution with the capacity to address the demands and requirements of mobile communication beyond IMT-2020, it is projected that this technology will operate in a highly heterogeneous environment and provide ubiquitous connectivity for a wide range of devices, new applications and use cases – PTA

According to PTA, the Government of Pakistanย policy directive based framework is an open invitation to all stakeholders to participate in the 5G Pakistan trials. Reportedly, the framework has only been issued for a temporary testing period.

DailyTimes reports that the Frequency Allocation Board (FAB) shall assign the spectrum to be used for subject trials which shall become effective from the date of Authorization issued by PTA.

The Test & Development Authorization allows an applicant to use spectrum on non-exclusive, non-commercial basis temporarily for the testing purposes.

The trial shall last somewhere around 3-6 months.
