Celine Dion is one of the most well-known singers around the world. She is popularly known for her song ‘My Heart Will Go On’ from Titanic. However, rumors have taken over social media that the crooner has passed away.
A website created 4 days ago claimed that Dion had passed away at 51 in a plane crash. However, Dion’s talent agency has confirmed that the news is a hoax and she is alive and well.
The fake news reading ‘Superstar and singing legend Celine Dion dead at 51’ in the headlines was shared hundreds of times on Facebook and on other social media platforms.
Those who clicked on the link were redirected to a page where a video was seen confirming the news. However, upon further investigation, it was found that the clip used from CNN was old and had been altered.
The video had been cut from CNN’s New Day news show where the co-host John Bergman is heard saying:
We have some terribly sad news to report this morning, heartbreaking, and devastating.
The video also shows a fake ticker running at the bottom reading the news of Dion’s death.
The video then stops, and in order to watch it further, the individuals were forced to share it amongst their social circles.
The report “is absolutely false,” a representative from Dion’s talent agency told AFP. Furthermore, no results are shown if a user searches ‘Celion Dion death’ on the official CNN website.
Following this spreading of the hoax news, Celine shared a picture from her on-going world tour titled ‘Courage’ on her social media.
Thank you Detroit for an incredible evening! We’ll be on stage on Nov. 18 in Montreal! Can’t wait!🔥💫/Merci Détroit pour la soirée incroyable! Nous remontons sur scène le 18 nov. prochain à Montréal! J’ai tellement hâte ! 🔥💫- Céline xx… #CourageWorldTour
