Pakistanis woke up to an unusual hashtag earlier this morning on Friday as “RIP Meera” was trending on a social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).

It was easy for the masses to mistake it for the seasoned actress Meera Jee, who has been a social media sensation for many reasons, including her feuds in Pakistan acting industry, a scandalous divorce and some that were extremely personal.

Here’s what happened:

Pakistani users initially believed a trending topic was related to actress Meera (Meera Jee), but it turned out to be about the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad. In Nigeria, youth from three states organized protests seeking justice for Mohbad, who had recently passed away and was buried. Mohbad’s death raised concerns, with some people accusing Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley and the owner of Marlian Records, of being connected to the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s demise.

Along with this, a statement from an Indian actor and music director, Vijay Antony, about his daughter’s suicide and legions of condolences from the industry.

A day after the cremation, Vijay Antony shared a moving post, in which he spoke highly of his beloved daughter.

“My dear people, my daughter Meera is a loving and brave girl. She is now in a better and peaceful place where caste, creed, money, jealousy, pain, poverty and animosity are better than this world. She is still talking to me. I died with her. I have now started spending time for her. I will now do good things on her behalf and she will kickstart them.”
