The Esports World Cup Foundation, a newly established non-profit entity backed by the Saudi government, will organize and oversee the event. Its primary objective is to foster collaboration among esports stakeholders, ensuring the industry’s long-term sustainability.
In a significant development, the Esports World Cup will supersede Gamers8, the existing $45 million esports festival hosted by the Saudi Esports Federation in Riyadh. While specific titles have yet to be announced, organizers have indicated that they will encompass the most widely played games globally.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman underscored the event’s pivotal role in advancing the National Gaming and Esports Strategy. This comprehensive initiative, unveiled in September 2022, aims to nurture Saudi Arabia’s burgeoning esports sector. According to the official statement, the competition aligns with the country’s Vision 2030 objectives. Those objectives aim to diversify the economy, bolster the tourism sector, and generate new employment opportunities.
