Despite a disappointing campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup, the Pakistan cricket team has qualified for the T20 World Cup 2026. The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed the first 12 teams that will participate in the next edition of the tournament, set to take place in India and Sri Lanka.
Qualification Confirmed
The upcoming event will also feature 20 teams, divided into four groups of five sides each like the recent edition. As hosts, India and Sri Lanka automatically secured the first two spots. The next 10 spots were determined based on performances in the Super Eight stage of the 2024 World Cup and the T20I team rankings.
Through this process, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, and the West Indies earned their places. The United States of America (USA) also secured a spot by qualifying for the Super Eight stage during their first-ever T20 World Cup campaign.
How Pakistan Qualified For T20 World Cup 2026?
Despite missing out on the Super Eights, the Babar Azam-led Pakistan team secured their place for the 2026 edition thanks to their T20I ranking of 7th. Alongside them, New Zealand (6th) and Ireland (11th) also qualified based on their rankings.
The remaining eight teams for the 2026 World Cup will be determined through regional qualifiers. There will be two qualification spots each for Africa, Asia, and Europe, and one spot each for the Americas and East-Asia Pacific regions.
Final Thoughts
The 2026 T20 World Cup promises to be an exciting event with an expanded format and more teams participating. Pakistan’s qualification, despite their disappointing 2024 campaign, highlights the importance of maintaining strong rankings and the potential for redemption.
