Toyota Pakistan has discontinued the petrol variant of its popular Hilux pickup truck. Now, the Hilux lineup, including the “Revo” and “Vigo” variants, is exclusively available with diesel engines. This change responds to market preferences, as diesel models have consistently outsold petrol ones.
Why Diesel Dominates
Diesel engines offer superior fuel economy and higher torque compared to petrol engines. These advantages are crucial for heavy-duty tasks and off-road performance. The better fuel efficiency and greater towing capacity of diesel engines make them ideal for the Hilux, a vehicle designed for rugged use.
Given the strong demand for diesel-powered Hilux models, Toyota decided to discontinue the less popular petrol variant. This move streamlines production and better meets customer needs.
The Petrol Hilux
The petrol Hilux, though less popular, had loyal customers and notable features. It came with a 4-cylinder in-line 2TR-FE engine and a 5-speed manual transmission, delivering 163 horsepower and 245 Nm of torque. This setup offered a solid balance of power and performance.
In terms of safety, the petrol Hilux featured SRS airbags for the driver and front passenger, an immobilizer, key and light reminders, engine oil level warnings, clutch start safety features, seatbelt reminders, and an anti-lock braking system (ABS). These features ensured a secure driving experience.
Looking Ahead
By discontinuing the petrol Hilux variant, Toyota aligns its offerings with market demands. Focusing on the popular and efficient diesel variants strengthens Toyotaโs position in Pakistanโs competitive pickup truck market.
As consumer preferences evolve, Toyota’s strategy will continue to adapt. For now, the shift to an all-diesel Hilux lineup reflects the growing preference for diesel engines in the region.
