journalist-questions-shan-masood-self-respect

Pakistan’s Test captain Shan Masood recently found himself in a bit of a hot seat during a media interaction that’s got everyone talking. The left-handed batter has faced plenty of criticism since stepping into this role, but things took an awkward turn when a reporter threw a controversial question his way.

The Awkward Question

During a press conference, a reporter named Javed questioned Shan Masood’s ‘self-respect’ and bluntly asked if he had considered stepping down as captain, given Pakistan’s struggles in Test cricket.

“You said that as long as they (PCB) are giving you opportunities, you’re availing them. So, don’t you have the self-respect to call it quits since the team is losing and you are not able to perform?” the reporter asked.

Shan Masood looked taken aback, glancing briefly at the PCB media manager before opting to ignore the question.

Media Manager Steps In

The PCB media manager later reminded everyone about the expected decorum when addressing the national captain. He stressed that the national captain should be respected irrespective of team’s performances.

“The captain of Pakistan is seated, feel free to ask your questions but please show respect,” the media manager stated, directing his comments toward Javed,” he stated.

“It was a clear message that while tough questions are part of the job, there’s a right way to ask them.”

Shan Masood’s Captaincy Record

Shan Masood, who remained in and out of the national, throughout his career was suddenly handed over the red-ball captain last year after Babar Azam resigned as the captain of all three formats.

However, Shan failed to turn team’s fortunes as Pakistan lost all five Test matches under his leadership. The Green Shirts suffered a harsh 3-0 whitewash against Australia in his debut series, followed by a humiliating 2-0 defeat at home against Bangladesh.

There were rumors about his removal as captain, but he managed to save his position and will be leading the side in the crucial three-match Test series against England, starting from 7 October.
