On September 28, London was the fourth city to host “The Marvels of Saudi Music.” The Saudi National Orchestra and Choir performed the marvel, along with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. This event celebrated Saudi Arabia’s 94th National Day.

It was held under Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al Saud’s patronage, Minister of Culture, and head of the Music Commission. The concert honored Saudi’s heritage and cultural diversity, mixing traditional Saudi music with international performances at the famous Central Hall Westminster, and featured 100 skilled Arab musicians. Here are some highlights from the event.

Tribute to The Late Saudi Poet Badr Bin Abdul Mohsen

The concert opened with a heartfelt tribute to the late poet, Prince Badr. The orchestra performed “Ana Mil Hal Ardh” (I am From This Land.) A song that was originally penned by Prince Badr and sung by the Legendary Muhammad Abdo.

Samri Art and The Wounds Of Betrayal

Next, the National Orchestra and Choir also performed a mesmerizing version of Samri. Samri is a traditional Saudi folk art. The tune of the performance was the beautiful sound of “Esmahili yal Gharam” (The Wound of Betrayal). Muhammad Abdo’s greatest pieces ever. This unique combination of classic folk art with a modern twist was one of the standout moments of the concert, showcasing the rich artistic heritage of Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Twist On Adele’s Rolling In The Deep

As a super bold and innovative move, the orchestra performed one of Hollywood’s most hit songs: Rolling in The Deep. The orchestra concluded the first half of the concert with a unique rendition of the song. The mashup captured the best elements of both Adele’s song and the Saudi classic “Adeet fi Marqab.”

The Concert Finale

As with most concert finales, this one too ended on a remarkable note. The show concluded with Rashed Al Majed’s “Ashginag” (We Loved You). A song released in honor of the 90th Saudi’s National Day on Sept. 23, 2020. The lyrics were fitting to the nature of the show as they too celebrate the diversity and beauty of the Saudi Culture.
