Musaddiq Malek mentions how directors are exploited here, as their earnings are capsuled into one-time payments.

Musaddiq Malek is a vocal director, who does not mince words to please anyone. Instead, he is speaking out on the inadequacies in the show business industry.

Malek is popular for powerful storytelling and innovative ideas. He recently termed the practices of the entertainment industry as exploitation of content creators and deprivation of fair compensation.

His sharp words at this moment set off an important discussion on the treatment accorded to directors, writers, and other content creators.

Industry Exhaustion and the Lack of Royalties

During an interview earlier this month. Musaddiq Malek expressed his frustrations about the exhausting demands placed upon the creators in the industry.

He pointed out the fact that many dramas go into repeat telecasts. Yet the creators behind all the work don’t get an extra penny from that.

Musaddiq Malek mentions how directors are exploited here. Their earnings are capsuled into one-time payments and they are deprived of future royalties.

He elaborated, “If royalties are paid for work, then I could strive to create something that would keep me well-settled for the next decade.” He claims that it will increase the quality of content and provide creators with the motivation to produce their best content.

Noor Jahan: A Success Story

He is best known for working as a director on Noor Jahan, a drama that received phenomenal acclaim.

Although it was a successful production and was a huge hit in the industry. Other than the obviously great storyline, the direction is what wow-ed people. Malek brought home a harsh reality: “no royalties would be offered to him for the project.”

In other words, he was only paid a one-time fee without any supplementary income. Even though the drama remained extremely popular on other channels.

He also added that this is one clear illustration where creators are being exploited to fill the pockets of the profit makers at the expense of their rightful share.

A Call for Change in the Industry

Musaddiq Malek’s candid words bring up the matter of fair treatment, including royalties, into the frame in the entertainment industry.

He looks at a system that helps recognise the hard work of creators and lends them financial security in the form of a guaranteed sum.

The more creators speak out, the bigger the hope seems that the industry might take a reevaluation of its practices in place and necessary adjustments to look after its talent.
