Is Jasprit Bumrah the best fast bowler of all time? According to Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, the answer might be a resounding yes. Speaking on The Grade Cricketer podcast, Maxwell showered praise on Bumrah following his breathtaking performance in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Optus Stadium, Perth.
A Generational Talent at His Peak
Maxwell didn’t hold back, calling Bumrah “potentially the best fast bowler of all time.” Now, that’s a bold statement! But anyone who watched Bumrah’s heroics in Perth would agree he’s something special.
Taking 8 wickets for just 72 runs across two innings, Bumrah left Australia’s batters scratching their heads. Whether it was his fiery 5/30 in the first innings or his sharp 3/42 in the second, Bumrah proved why he’s a complete package.

Maxwell summed it up perfectly, “He’s got such a unique action, unique ability with the ball to get it to move and rush you. He can beat you on the outside edge, inside edge, and he’s got a quick sniff slower ball. He seems like the complete package.”
Leading by Example
What makes this performance even more impressive is that Jasprit Bumrah wasn’t just the spearhead of the bowling attack—he was also captaining the team. Stepping in for Rohit Sharma, Bumrah showcased his leadership skills, guiding India to a massive 295-run victory.
In doing so, he became only the second Asian captain to win a Test in Perth, after the legendary Anil Kumble.
And if that wasn’t enough, he also leapfrogged Ravichandran Ashwin to become India’s third-highest wicket-taker in Australia. Bumrah now has 41 wickets Down Under, trailing only Kapil Dev (51) and Anil Kumble (49).
