Six members of a street crime and carjacking gang led by a woman, Anisa Kiran, have been taken into custody by Karachi authorities.
The Gang’s Leadership and Operations
Targeting factory vehicles and distribution company cashiers, the 22-member gang carried out robberies all over Karachi. Anisa Kiran not only served as the group’s leader but also actively participated in the planning and execution of their crimes, according to SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqui.
Her husband, Saad, acted as her key accomplice, recruiting young men employed in factories as salesmen or order bookers. He tempted them with promises of quick and easy money, leading them into a life of crime.

The Arrests and Key Suspects
Police arrested six individuals, including Anisa herself, her husband Saad, and other members: Sherdil, Abdul Rafi, Kabir, and Basit. Among them, Basit had recently returned from Dubai. The others had been involved in criminal activities for over a year.
Sherdil and Rafi had previously been arrested for similar offences, but the majority of the suspects were first-time offenders. According to police, the gang’s operations suffered significant losses as a result of their arrests.
Recovery of Stolen Items
Police found a number of stolen items during the operation, including three pistols, cash, purses and wallets, laptops, among other things.ย
These items were linked to robberies across multiple neighbourhoods in Karachi, including Defence, Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan, Hyderi Market, Azizabad, and Gulshan-e-Maymar.
Confessions and Broader Implications
The people who were taken into custody admitted to taking part in numerous robberies throughout the city. Their activities took advantage of the schedules and movements of defenceless factory and distribution workers.
A Criminal Network Upended
This case highlights the concerning pattern of young people being lured into criminal activity by deceptive claims of financial gain. Residents of Karachi are relieved by the arrests, but they also serve as a reminder that systemic changes are required to address youth unemployment and crime.
The police’s swift action has dealt a significant blow to this gang, offering a sense of security to the communities affected by their crimes.
