Shane Watson, the Australian legend who’s been a pivotal figure for Quetta Gladiators, will not be returning as head coach for the upcoming 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The news, confirmed by the Gladiators on Wednesday, stems from scheduling conflicts caused by the PSL’s revised window.
This adjustment was made to accommodate the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, leaving Watson unable to honor his commitments with the team due to his pre-signed agreements elsewhere.

Watson’s Legacy with Quetta Gladiators
Shane Watson has been more than just a coach or player for the Gladiators; he’s been a symbol of success and resilience. Let’s not forget, the Gladiators lifted their maiden PSL trophy in 2019 when Watson was donning the Quetta jersey as a player.

For Sarfaraz, this would be more than just a role change—it’s a homecoming. He’s been with the Gladiators since the league’s inception and was instrumental in their historic 2019 title win. Over the years, Sarfaraz led the team with passion, playing 86 matches and scoring 1525 runs, including seven half-centuries.
Although the 2023 season marked the end of his captaincy, with Rilee Rossouw taking over the reins, Sarfaraz remains a beloved figure within the Gladiators’ camp. His deep understanding of the team’s culture and dynamics makes him a natural fit for the coaching role.
