Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated a range of programmes meant to enable students at the ceremony held at Government College Women University (GCWU), Sialkot. The function was also launched for the Gujranwala division’s Honhaar Scholarship Programme. It signified her government’s commitment to prioritising the development of youth.
Laptops Distribution Ceremony
In a move, Maryam Nawaz announced that all students scoring above 65% in their examinations will receive laptops. She proudly shared that the devices were selected for their high quality. She would personally distribute them in the coming weeks.
Scholarships Worth Rs89.8 Million
Under the Honhaar Scholarship Programme, 1,947 students of the Gujranwala division will get scholarships amounting to Rs89.8 million. This includes Rs58.5 million for the students of government universities, Rs13.2 million for college students and allocations for the students of private institutions and medical colleges. Maryam Nawaz also promised to increase the number of scholarships to 50,000 in the next budget.
During the event, Maryam Nawaz pledged her support to a student whose mother needs cancer treatment, promising the Punjab government would pay for it. She underscored the importance of removing financial barriers that stop students from being their best selves.

E-Bikes for Students
The chief minister announced the distribution of 100,000 e-bikes to students in Punjab, underlining the need for mobility and an eco-friendly means of transportation.
Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed her commitment to the youth and declared the Honhaar Scholarship Programme the biggest in Pakistan’s history. She appreciated the students for their perseverance in the face of financial constraints and said that scholarships were only given on merit. “This is your right; the fruit of your hard work,” she told the students.
Hope for Pakistan’s Future
The chief minister said that she was optimistic about the economic recovery of Pakistan, which can be seen in reduced inflation and record-breaking stock market performance. She told the students to stay alert and focused on serving the country. “Pakistan is our motherland, and we must work together for its progress,” she said.
The event concluded with a symbolic guard of honour for the students and recitations of Kalam-e-Iqbal. It underlined the importance of youth in shaping Pakistan’s future.
