Sabir Sami Steps Down After 36 Years of Service in the Corporate World

Global CEO of KFC, Sabir Sami, has stepped down after 36 years of service to the corporate world to focus on his family and personal projects, effective from March 1, 2025. Mr. Sami will however continue with KFC in an advisory capacity until March 1, 2026.

In a statement published on January 15, 2025, Yum Brands revealed that Scott Mezvinsky, the president of Taco Bell North America and International, will be the successor of Mr. Sami.

Sabir Sami’s World-Class Journeyย 

Mr. Sami has been fortunate enough to work with some of the most reputable corporations in the world, like Procter and Gamble, Coca-Cola, Reckitt Benckiser and Yum Brands. His experience with multiple countries and cultures like Pakistan, Australia, Turkey, UAE, Canada, Singapore, Vietnam and the US has shaped him into the person he is, allowing him to grow both personally and professionally.

16 years with KFC

Mr Sami has been associated with KFC for the past 16 years and working as the Chief Executive Officer for the past 3 years. He has held various executive positions with Yum Brands since 2009.“The last 16 years with KFC have been some of the most fulfilling of my career,” Mr Sami shared in a post on LinkedIn. “I’m grateful for the camaraderie of the entire KFC community, including our Yum employees and the dedicated franchise partners,” he added.

Yum Brands CEO David Gibbs also thanked Mr. Sami in the news release, “I would like to thank Sabir for his years of service and dedication to Yum! Brands and KFC, and the meaningful impact and contributions toward our business.โ€

What’s Next for Sabir Sami?

After 36 successful years in the corporate world, Mr Sami has now decided to deepen his involvement in causes close to his heart. These include Save the Children Canada and Latif Kapadia Memorial Welfare Trust (LKMWT), a non-profit organisation in Pakistan.

In his LinkedIn post, Mr Sami also shared his intention to dedicate more time to his family, simultaneously thanking his wife for her unconditional support throughout his journey.

Scott Mezvinsky’s appointment as the CEO of KFC has marked a significant shift in the company’s top management as he brings experience from another major segment from Yum Brands.
