David Lynch, the legendary American filmmaker recognised for his surreal yet unforgettable works, has passed away at the age of 78. The family announced the sad news on Lynch’s official Facebook page, expressing their sadness in a touching tribute.
โThereโs a big hole in the world now that heโs no longer with us,โ they wrote.
A Battle with Emphysema
Lynch had been suffering from emphysema for some time, a chronic lung illness attributed to years of smoking. In August of last year, he announced his diagnosis. Despite his health struggles, he carried on sharing his creativity and refused to retire. Lynch’s health continued to deteriorate through November and he soon needed oxygen to walk.
A Visionary Career in Cinema
David Lynch created some of cinemaโs most unforgettable works, including ‘Mulholland Drive,‘ ‘Blue Velvet,‘ and the series ‘Twin Peaks.‘ Furthermore, he earned three Oscar nominations for Best Director.
In 1990, Lynch won the prestigious Palme dโOr at Cannes for ‘Wild at Heart,’ย cementing him as a legendary filmmaker.
