Teachers Protest Across Sindh Against the Government's Policy

Teachers from NED University of Engineering and Technology, KU and Sindh Madressa Tul Islam University protested outside Karachi Universityโ€™s Silver Jubilee Gate, calling on the government to withdraw plans to appoint bureaucrats as vice chancellors and review the policy of hiring teachers on a contractual basis.

Protests were also reported at Sindh University, Mehran University, Agricultural University, GCU (Hyderabad), SMBB Medical University and the University of Sufism. Meanwhile, the Sindh chapter of the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) decided on a two-day extension of the class boycott, i.e. Thursday and Friday.

In Karachi, teachers blocked University Road for two hours before concluding the protest at NED University. Reports suggest that academic groups plan to expand the protests. The association also warned that protests and press conferences will be organised outside the Sindh Assembly if the bill permits bureaucrats as vice-chancellors to be introduced.
