Recently, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasised his government’s commitment to empowering youth by prioritising education, supporting entrepreneurship and fostering partnerships for a prosperous future, during the inaugural session of the Commonwealth Asia Youth Alliance (CAYA) summit.
The Prime Minister warmly welcomed delegates from various nations, highlighting Pakistan’s commitment as a founding member of the Commonwealth.
Delegates from 12 countries, federal ministers, diplomats, 113 new members of the National Youth Council, students and scholars from across the country were present at the opening session of the international summit.
โWith over 60% of the Commonwealth population under the age of 30, the future rests in the hands of the youth. These hands must be empowered and equipped through vigorous training and access to modern technology. This will enable them to carve out a peaceful, progressive, and prosperous future,โ the PM added.
PM Shehbaz highlighted that with approximately 70% of Pakistanโs population being under 30, the nation understood how this challenge could be harnessed and transformed into exceptional opportunities.
Stressing the important role of youth in development, he informed the international audience that he always prioritised the productive employment of youth as a central focus area and devoted significant efforts to this goal.

He mentioned that the government of Pakistan remains committed to empowering young people through impactful programmes such as the Youth Programme, which is benefitting millions of boys and girls across Pakistan.

Reflecting on his tenure as Punjabโs chief minister, PM highlighted the launch of the Punjab Education Endowment Fund, which provided stipends to top students for their education as well as the formation of Daanish Schools, which are now expanding to Islamabad, Azad Kashmir (AJK) and remote areas of Balochistan.
He also shared that approximately 600,000 laptops had been distributed to high achievers, which proved to be invaluable during the COVID-19 pandemic. The PM further added that a new programme had been launched to provide laptops to high achievers from Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and AJK, particularly those from modest financial backgrounds.
