The Australian government has banned DeepSeek AI from all government devices due to security concerns. According to an official order on Tuesday, the Chinese AI program presents โan unacceptable level of security riskโ, as stated by Department of Home Affairs Secretary Stephanie Foster.

Foster said, โAfter considering threat and risk analysis, I have determined that the use of DeepSeek products, applications, and web services poses an unacceptable level of security risk to the Australian Government.โ Following this decision, all non-corporate Commonwealth entities must remove DeepSeek from government systems and mobile devices by Wednesday.
The directive further requires that access, use or installation of DeepSeek be prevented across all government devices. This move aligns with Australia’s broader efforts to strengthen cybersecurity and protect sensitive government data.
