umar akmal

Cricket runs in the blood of Umar Akmal, having served Pakistan along with his two brothers, Kamran and Adnan, but surprisingly, he doesn’t want his son to follow in his footsteps.

In a video making rounds on social media, the former Pakistan cricketer was seen training in the nets with his son, who dreams of becoming a cricketer. But despite his son’s passion, Akmal made it clear—he doesn’t want him to pursue a career in cricket.

His reason? The injustice his family allegedly faced.

“I Don’t Want Him to Play Cricket”

Umar Akmal, who has played 16 Tests, 121 ODIs, and 84 T20Is for Pakistan, got emotional while opening up about his fears.

“He is my son, and he is very passionate about cricket, but if I share my honest opinion, I don’t want him to play cricket—as you know, it is Pakistan.”

That statement alone speaks volumes. We all know Umar Akmal’s career has been controversial.

From on-field performances to off-field issues, his journey has been anything but smooth. And now, it seems his past struggles have left a lasting impact—so much so that he wants to shield his son from the same fate.

“I Will Support Him, But…”

Despite his concerns, Akmal isn’t going to crush his son’s dreams. He made it clear that while he doesn’t want him to become a cricketer, he won’t stand in his way either.

“Since it is his passion, I would go all out to support him. But at the same time, I made him promise that his first priority should remain his studies, then cricket.”

It’s an interesting contrast—many cricketers openly encourage their kids to take up the sport, but Akmal’s past experiences have made him wary. He doesn’t want history to repeat itself.

Before ending, Umar Akmal had a simple request for his fans: “Kindly pray for him to succeed, and if the Pakistan Cricket Board wants, then he can play.”

It’s a bittersweet statement. On one hand, he’s cautious. On the other hand, he still hopes his son gets a fair chance.
