Quite recently, the world has been seeing strange happenings. Creatures from deep within the sea are escaping to the shore, some in large quantities, and it’s almost absurd. Are they escaping from something? Well, only time will tell. For now, let’s look at the strangest things that have happened in the oceans in recent times.
Sighting of Oarfish A.K.A “Dooms Day Fish”
One of the deep-sea horrors that surfaced to the shore is the deep sea “doomsday fish.” This fish usually lives 660 to 3280 ft. under water, but according to the recent reports, it is mysteriously washing up to the shores of Mexico, California and Canary Island. Many are speculating that this is an indication of a tsunami or some other natural disaster.
Now, one might wonder why people are taking it so seriously, well, maybe because it is that deep. People are getting so concerned because this deep-sea creature has a Japanese folklore link to it. In Japanese folklore, oarfish are believed to be “Messengers of the Sea God” and are warning signs for an upcoming earthquake or tsunami.
This has happened before too in 2011 Fukushima earthquake as several oarfish were seen resurfacing just before the natural disaster. Hence, people are again speculating that another seismic event is about to occur. However, marine experts remain c. “There is no scientific proof linking oarfish appearances with seismic activity,” said Hiroyuki Motomura. Guess we will have to wait and find out who is right- science or superstition.
Huge Number of Turtles Found on Odisha Beach
In another news, endangered ridley turtles were also seen appearing on the coast of Odisha, India. And these aren’t just 10 or 20 turtles but almost 6.82 lakh turtles being washed up to the surface. Many are wondering what the possible reason for this mass sighting is. Well, an explanation could be Arribada. It is a Spanish term, which means nesting and in this phenomenon, thousands of marine turtles gather on specific beaches to lay their eggs.
But why are they suddenly choosing Odisha for this? Possible reasons could be environmental factors including ocean currents, favourable weather, ideal water temperatures and suitable nesting sites. Whatever it is, we sure will be seeing a huge number of hatchlings and a massive increase of these species. Sounds exciting to say the least.
Dolphins Being Found Stranded in Tasmania
It is also being reported that more than 150 dolphins are being washed up on Australia’s Tasmania beaches. Authorities have reported that of the 157, 136 were alive and rescue teams tried their best to save these animals. However, unfortunately, these rescue operations proved to be challenging due to the location being remote and the massive creatures requiring heavy equipment to lift them. So, as a result, only 90 of the pods were saved.
Here, we don’t really know why this mass migration to the shore occurred as it was pretty unusual for Tasmania beach to see such sighting in decades. Maybe they are just migratory animals who landed on the wrong side of the coast or maybe the global climate change has something to do with it. As of now, let’s leave it to the authorities to figure it out.

Fisherman seemed to be very happy but locals have other perspectives. Whether its water temperatures rising or something else, it must be looked into immediately. So many fish don’t just land in the wrong location for no reason.

The Horrifying Angler Fish Swimming to the Top
Another concerning phenomenon is the unexpected presence of anglerfish or the “black sea devil” in shallow waters. These creatures are typically found in the ocean’s deepest, darkest regions. However, last month, one angler fish was observed swimming to the top of the ocean just before its death. As emotional as this sounds, it’s concerning why this fish chose to do such a long journey. But why?
Although the exact cause remains unclear, researchers suggest that these shifts could be affecting marine ecosystems in unpredictable ways. “Changes in ocean temperatures are likely disrupting deep-sea habitats,” an expert stated. The implications of these disruptions remain a significant concern.
Is All this Linked to the Leviathan Myth?
Even though scientists keep telling us it’s all insignificant and nothing to be concerned about, people are saying otherwise. Due to social media, many users are getting concerned about these series of events and some are even linking them to the Leviathan myth. The Leviathan is a sea monster from Hebrew mythology that appears in the Bible and other Jewish texts. It’s often depicted as a dragon, serpent, or crocodile with sharp teeth and fire-breathing abilities. This creature is supposed to be a symbol of chaos and has appeared in the bible on numerous instances. Scary? Yes. Authentic? Debatable.
All in all, whether it’s a warning about climate change or a folklore reference, we need to pay attention immediately.
