Elon Musk Claims X Was Hit by Major Cyberattack

Elon Musk said on X that the platform was hit by a major cyberattack and continues to face similar threats. Screenshots of his post reportedly read, โ€œWe get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and (or) a country is involved.โ€ย

According to Reuters, NY Post and the BBC, Musk said he was working to trace the source of the attack. He did not clarify what he meant by โ€œa lot of resourcesโ€ or provide evidence for his claim. In an interview with Fox Business, Musk alleged that computers involved in the attack had digital addresses in the Ukraine area. He added that X was still investigating the incident.

Reports of Xโ€™s outage began at 6 PM on Monday, peaking around 10 PM and 12 AM (SGT). According to Downdetector.com, 58% of complaints were about the app, while 31% were about the website. Users across Asia, Europe and North America faced issues. In the US alone, tens of thousands of users reported problems accessing the platform.

Several cybersecurity experts told foreign media that it is difficult to assess the attack without access to Xโ€™s internal data. Musk has frequently criticised Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelensky, with several recent posts targeting Zelensky. Last year, Musk claimed X was under massive distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, which were never verified.
