Instagramโs new video editor app, Edits, will launch later than expected. According to the App Store, the release date was initially set for March 13, but it has now shifted to March 31, 2025. Meta hasnโt shared a reason for the delay.
Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri introduced Edits as a tool for people who love making videos on their phones. The app promises a full range of creative features, including:
- Inspiration tab to explore ideas
- Idea tracker to save concepts
- High-quality camera for better video capture
- Complete editing tools for trimming, merging, and more
- Draft sharing with friends and creators
- Seamless export to Instagram and detailed Reels insights
Screenshots show options to crop videos, add sound and voiceovers, create subtitles and adjust settings like resolution and frame rate. Unlike some competitors, Edits will allow watermark-free exports to any platform.

Interestingly, Instagram announced Edits the same day the US banned TikTok and CapCut. Since Reels already competes with TikTok, it makes sense for Meta to invest in its own editor.
The app will first launch for iPhone, with an Android version coming โsoon after.โ
