On Earth Day 2025, Zong has reaffirmed its dedication to sustainability by sharing significant progress in building a greener, more energy-efficient digital ecosystem. The company is blending technological innovation with environmental responsibility, focusing on reducing its carbon footprint while supporting the country’s expanding digital needs.

Green Networks and Clean Energy Transition

Zong’s ongoing investment in green infrastructure is reshaping the nation’s digital future. As of 2025, over 805 of its mobile cell sites operate on solar energy, with an additional 325 sites undergoing transition within the year. Furthermore, approximately 76% of its sites have shifted to high-efficiency lithium-ion batteries; offering enhanced energy performance and reduced reliance on conventional power sources. In 2024 alone, the telecom operator reported a reduction of 40,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per month, underlining a tangible commitment to environmentally conscious network expansion.

Data Centers with a Sustainable Edge

The company has also made strides in its data center operations, which form the backbone of its digital infrastructure. Zong recently secured Tier 3 Design and Facility Certification for its headquarters data center, an international benchmark for operational excellence, reliability, and resilience. This achievement supports businesses looking for dependable digital solutions while maintaining high environmental standards.

In parallel, a new multi-story, energy-efficient data center is under development in Faisalabad. Our facilities will feature advanced cooling technologies, containment designs to reduce energy usage, and lithium-ion battery systems for improved performance and energy savings. Zong is also deploying real-time Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) systems to optimize energy use and reduce operational waste.

Leading by Innovation and Responsibility

From transitioning to cleaner energy sources to building smarter, greener infrastructure, Zong’s approach aligns with a vision of a digitally enabled and environmentally conscious Pakistan. Through environmental stewardship, Zong is positioning itself as a telecom leader in sustainable development. The company is not merely expanding its technological capabilities; it is rethinking how that growth can occur with minimal environmental impact.
