A California surfer, Alessandro โAloโ Slebir, 23, may have made history by riding one of the tallest waves ever recorded. The wave, surfed on December 23 at Mavericks near Half Moon Bay, is estimated to be an incredible 108 feet high. If verified, this ride will break the current record of 86 feet set by Sebastian Steudtner in 2020 off the coast of Portugal.
Slebir shared his experience with KSBW-TV, describing the challenge of riding such a towering wave. โWhen youโre riding waves that big, the speed is intenseโaround 30 to 50 miles per hour. This wave was so gigantic, that .it was pulling a tremendous amount of water back under my board. The friction from the water was unlike anything Iโve ever felt before. It was surreal,โ he said.
