My Parts are Not Immoral
Recently, the actress appeared on an episode of the podcast powered by, Fuchsia Magazine, the host went on to ask questions concerning her choice of roles and ethical standards. When asked on how Amna selects her characters she said, “You have probably never looked at any of my parts as immoral or dishonourable”, she went on, “let me explain even if it seems insensitive, anything that is played in our media, is always trying to depict our society and is not completely meaningless.” Ilyas continued to clarify, that even though her characters try to depict certain unsolved issues prevalent in our society, they are always meant to be meaningful.
Staying Honest and Having a Clear Conscience
Ilyas also raised her strict personal policies regarding the promotion of products which have contrary beliefs and aims from what she believes in. She recalled that even when she was struggling to pay her bills, she rejected opportunities to endorse skin whitening creams and lotions. “Such promotions were not appealing to me even when I was in dire need of money and quite poor”, she reminiscence. For Amna, it is not just a question of money, or getting a salary, it is the matter of staying honest and having a clear conscience.
Amna and Her Selection
Amna Ilyas further went to describe her process on how she selects the parts she is offered; she comments to the audience in a video. “For instance, if I have to act like a criminal, it is not to promote criminals or their activities but to depicts real life. But I don’t play roles which may generate unnecessary complexes or which perpetuate unneeded stereotypes.”
