The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken a proactive step in ensuring the safety of its players ahead of their upcoming tour of Pakistan. Scheduled to commence on August 17th, this tour includes two Test matches as part of the ICC Test Championship, with games slated for Rawalpindi and Karachi.
Request for Security Consultant
BCB’s cricket operations chairman, Jalal Yunus, revealed that the board has approached the government for a security consultant to accompany the team. This move aims to maintain continuous communication regarding security issues throughout the tour.
“We have requested the government to provide us with a security consultant during the tour who will maintain communication with them at all times regarding the security issues,” Yunus explained.
Assurances of State-Level Security
Jalal Yunus assured reporters that Pakistan has committed to providing state-level security to Bangladesh team, similar to the arrangements during the Asia Cup. “We go there because they assure us of state-level security, and after they assured us about it, the tour was fixed,” he said.
He pointed out that Bangladesh had a positive experience with security during their previous visit for the Asia Cup. He also highlighted that other international teams have visited Pakistan recently and have been satisfied with the security measures in place.
“You might have seen in recent times that some international teams have also visited [Pakistan] and they are quite happy with the security they provided,” he noted. This assurance from Pakistani authorities was a crucial factor in confirming the tour.
Player Concerns Addressed
Despite initial concerns, Yunus confirmed that the players have no objections to the upcoming tour, thanks to the robust security assurances.
“We are also very much concerned about the security, but after knowing everything and after getting assurance from them regarding the security, we have fixed the tour,” he reiterated.
The Test series will kick off in Rawalpindi, where first Test will be played from August 21-25, followed by the second Test in Karachi from August 30 to September 3.
