Change is in the air for Team India, and it starts with the bus ride. Yes, you read that rightโtraveling together is now part of the new norm, thanks to the Board of Control for Cricket in Indiaโs (BCCI) recently introduced 10-point policy.
This isnโt just about a team bus; itโs about discipline, unity, and a fresh mindset as India gears up to face England in the T20I opener on January 22 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
The New Playbook: Whatโs Changing?
After a disappointing series against Australia, the BCCI decided enough was enough. To shake things up, they rolled out a strict Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) designed to foster discipline and teamwork.
One major change? No more separate rides for senior players or special vehicles for families. From now on, everyone travels togetherโplayers, coaches, and support staffโon the team bus.

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is on board with these changes. CAB President Snehasish Ganguly confirmed the organizationโs commitment to adhering to the new rules. โWe must follow the guidelines, which clearly state that all players are expected to travel with the team to and from matches and practice sessions,โ Ganguly explained.
Why the New Rules?
Letโs face it: after the lackluster performances against Australia, it was clear that something needed to change. The BCCI believes that traveling together and maintaining discipline will strengthen the teamโs bond and work ethic.
The SOP also emphasizes the importance of players staying for the full duration of practice sessions. No early exits, no exceptions. This rule is all about accountability and setting the tone for a strong, united squad.
While some players, including skipper Rohit Sharma, have reportedly voiced concerns about certain clauses, the BCCI is standing firm.
A Cultural Shift in Indian Cricket
For years, senior players enjoyed the perk of traveling separately, often with their families. Even during tours of Australia, private arrangements were the norm. But those days are over.

In a first, the Indian team arrived at Eden Gardens on the team bus. Head coach Gautam Gambhir led the charge, followed by captain Suryakumar Yadav, all-rounder Hardik Pandya, and the rest of the squad. It was a small moment, but it symbolized a significant cultural shift.
No More Personal Managers
Another notable change is the restriction on personal managers or assistants staying at the team hotel. This rule comes after recent criticism involving a personal manager of a support staff member gaining access to restricted areas.
Now, the focus is firmly on the teamโno distractions, no exceptions. At its core, this policy isnโt just about logistics; itโs about setting a new standard for what it means to be part of Team India.
The BCCI wants every player to feel like theyโre part of something bigger than themselves. Will these changes translate to better on-field performances? Only time will tell. But one thingโs certain: Team India is stepping into a new era, one bus ride at a time.
