Wasim Akram ignited a firestorm with his comments recently about David Miller’s involvement with the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchise Fortune Barishal. However, his claim of Miller postponing his wedding for a hefty paycheck was shot down by the BPL franchise.
The 2024 edition of BPL reached its climax, leaving fans on the edge of their seats. Among the highlights was the stellar performance of David Miller, who led Fortune Barishal to their maiden BPL title.
Despite scoring just 47 runs, Miller left a lasting impression by smashing the winning runs in the final against Comilla Victorians, securing the championship for his team.
However, amidst the celebrations, former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram stirred the pot with sensational claims regarding Miller’s involvement in the tournament.
Akram alleged that Miller had postponed his wedding to participate in the BPL, citing a lucrative offer of $150,000 for three matches.
“I just found out today because we were discussing who won the BPL as we were not following because of the PSL. David Miller was offered $150,000 to play three matches. He postponed his wedding [for BPL],” Akram said while talking to a local sports channel.
Fortune Barishal denies Wasim Akram’s claims
The revelation sent shockwaves through the cricketing world, but Fortune Barishal owner Mizanur Rahman swiftly refuted Akram’s claims.
Rahman clarified that Miller’s decision to stay with the team was driven by his emotional connection with his teammates, rather than financial gain. He vehemently denied the existence of any such offer and emphasized Miller’s commitment to the team’s success.

“No, these [information] are not true at all. These are absolutely untrue and are false info,” he said during an interview with a Bangladeshi newspaper.
“He stayed because of his emotion [the emotional bond that he had created with the Barishal team members], not just because of money. Was Wasim Akram with the team? I know how much he [Miller] got paid. So, these claims are not true,” he added.
