CM Maryam Nawaz Launches Skills Program for Transgenders

For the first time in Punjab’s history, the transgender community is being offered a new chance at a respectful and dignified life. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a major step has been taken with the launch of a technical and vocational skills programme for transgenders. This initiative aims to bring economic independence and social acceptance to the transgender community, which has long faced discrimination and exclusion.

In the first phase of the programme, 1,600 transgender individuals will be provided with professional skills training through the Punjab Skills Development Fund (PSDF). The training will include a variety of fields, such as IT and freelancing, which will help them earn independently and become part of the digital economy. Healthcare assistant training is also included in the programme — a first-of-its-kind effort for the transgender community in Punjab.

Tailoring, Fashion Designing and More

Other fields included in the training are tailoring and fashion designing, which will allow transgenders to have a stable source of income. The programme also covers electrical work, solar technology, beauty services, and culinary arts. These areas have been chosen to create a wide range of employment opportunities.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said, “It is heartbreaking to witness the inhumane treatment faced by transgenders in our society. Due to social exclusion and lack of job opportunities, many are forced to beg for survival.”

She further stated, “By equipping transgenders with skills, we aim to prove that talent has no gender. This programme is not just about training; it’s a movement to give transgenders their rightful, respectful place in society.”

According to her, this vocational training effort is more than just a policy. It is about making a real change in the lives of transgender individuals by giving them a chance to be part of society with dignity. This initiative is now active and beginning to bring positive outcomes in Punjab.
