Police reached the location promptly after the Karsaz Road accident and took the driver into custody. However, enraged citizens surrounded the police vehicle, refusing to let the authorities take the driver away.

Another couple, who narrowly escaped the crash, described the chilling moment. “The car hit us too, but fortunately, we managed to stay upright. The scene was horrifying,” said the shaken woman, breaking down in tears.

The Karsaz Road accident highlights the increasing concerns over road safety in the city. Reckless driving and weak enforcement of traffic laws continue to take lives, leaving families in grief.

Earlier, another tragic accident occurred when a tanker lost control and veered onto the opposite side of the road, claiming the lives of a couple and their newborn child.

The victims, identified as Abdul Qayyum and Zainab, were returning home from Koohi Goth Hospital in Landhi after a medical check-up. Abdul Qayyum was a government employee.

Following the incident, furious citizens vandalised the tanker by breaking its windows and physically assaulting the driver before handing him over to the police.

These accidents, along with many others, indicate that Karachi has witnessed a sharp increase in traffic accidents involving heavy vehicles, with over 207 fatalities recorded this year.

The city’s traffic police have been making efforts to control such incidents by issuing challans and canceling vehicle fitness certificates.
