On Saturday night, an earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter Scale jolted twin cities, Rawalpindi and Islamabad. According to the Seismological Center, the quake had a depth of 17 kilometres, and its epicentre was located 8 kilometres southwest of Rawalpindi.
The residents of the cities panicked, rushing out of their homes and offices, reciting prayers. According to reports, the tremors were quite intense and were especially felt by those living in high-rise buildings. Till now, no causalities have been reported.

Earthquakes are not uncommon in Pakistan as the country is located on the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. In November, a 5.3-magnitude earthquake shook the federal capital, Islamabad, and several areas of neighbouring Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
