In a surprising turn of events, England made history with a unique batting record in the opening match of the ICC World Cup 2023 against New Zealand.

England after losing the toss were asked to bat first by New Zealand captain Tom Latham and they managed to score 282-9.

However, what truly made their performance stand out was that every single one of their eleven batters scored in double figures.

This remarkable feat had never happened before in the 52-year history of One Day Internationals (ODIs), spanning a remarkable 4,567 matches.

This outstanding achievement showcased the depth of England’s batting talent. Their aggressive play led to some wickets falling, but it also provided opportunities for the lower-order batsmen, Adil Rashid and Mark Wood, to make valuable contributions.

England’s record-breaking performance surpassed the previous record of ten batters reaching double figures in a single ODI innings, a feat achieved five times in the past. Notably, in all those instances, the team batting second achieved this milestone.

While such records are more common in Test cricket, where there are no restrictions on overs, this historic achievement in ODIs adds a new chapter to England’s cricketing legacy.

Despite this record-breaking display, England ultimately faced defeat at the hands of New Zealand, who secured victory by a formidable nine-wicket margin.

Centuries from Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra meant the defending champions had no chance to defend 282 in Ahmedabad.

Conway’s blistering 152 off 121 balls and Ravindra’s powerful 123 off 96 balls sealed the resounding victory for New Zealand in what turned out to be a one-sided encounter.
