Pakistan cricket fans are frustrated, and so is Wasim Akram. After yet another disappointing defeat against India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2024, the legendary pacer didn’t mince his words.
He ripped into Pakistan’s lackluster performance, their toothless bowling attack, and their outdated white-ball approach. And honestly? He’s just saying what everyone has been thinking.
Pakistan’s Campaign Hanging by a Thread
It was another painful night for Pakistan cricket. Batting first, they scraped together 241 runs before getting bowled out in the final over.
It was a par score at best, but against a powerhouse like India, it was never going to be enough. And then came Virat Kohli, doing what he does best—punishing Pakistan. His classy century guided India to an easy victory with 45 balls to spare.
For Pakistan, it was the same old story. A promising start, followed by poor execution, and in the end, a crushing defeat.

“We’ve Been Playing Archaic Cricket”
Speaking on a TV show after the match, Akram didn’t hold back. “Enough is enough. Now it is time to take drastic steps. We have been playing archaic cricket in white-ball for ages.”
And let’s be honest—he’s right. While teams like England, India, and Australia have embraced modern, fearless cricket, Pakistan is still stuck in the past. The aggressive, attacking mindset that once made them dangerous? Gone.
A Call for Bold Changes
Wasim Akram wasn’t just venting his frustration—he had a clear plan for change.
“Bring young cricketers, fearless cricketers in white-ball format. If you need to make 5-6 changes to the team, just do it. You might keep losing for the next six months. It’s fine, but start building the team for the 2026 T20 World Cup from now.”
That’s the kind of long-term vision Pakistan desperately needs.
Right now, the team lacks direction, strategy, and a winning mentality. If changes aren’t made now, the struggles will continue.

Pakistan’s Bowling – A Shadow of Its Former Self
Pakistan’s bowling attack was once feared worldwide. Now? It’s one of the worst in international cricket.
Wasim Akram dropped a shocking stat—in the last five ODIs, Pakistan’s bowlers have managed just 24 wickets at an average of 60.
And if that wasn’t bad enough, Pakistan has the second-worst bowling average among 14 international teams, including Oman and the USA.
Akram didn’t just blame the players. He called out the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and demanded answers from chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
“Chairman sir, please call the captain, selection committee, and coach and ask them what kind of selection they have made.”
Mohammad Rizwan, the captain, wasn’t spared either. “Even captain Rizwan is to blame. He is the leader of the ship, and if he doesn’t know what kind of match-winner he needs, then it’s embarrassing.”
