The Tweet That Sparked It All
Let’s rewind a bit. A few weeks ago, Fakhar Zaman took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express his discontent over the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to drop Babar Azam from the second and third Test matches against England.
He didn’t hold back, referencing Virat Kohli’s struggles with form between 2020 and 2023 and how India stood by their star during his slump. Fakhar pointed out, “India didn’t bench Virat Kohli during his rough stretch… If we’re considering sidelining our premier batsman… it could send a deeply negative message.”
It was a bold statement, and Fakhar’s loyalty to Babar was evident. But PCB wasn’t too pleased. The cricket board slapped Fakhar with a show-cause notice, claiming his tweet violated their code of conduct.
According to the board, national players should steer clear of public criticism regarding selection decisions. And soon after, Fakhar’s name was missing from the central contracts list for the 2024-25 season.

The Alleged Agent Drama
As if the PCB notice and central contract omission weren’t enough, Fakhar’s agency, Saya Corporation, was also pulled into the drama. Rumors began swirling that Fakhar’s agent had posted content that didn’t sit well with him.
The story goes that a social media post, possibly timed to favour Babar Azam, may have added fuel to Fakhar’s frustrations. With the timing of that post under scrutiny, Fakhar decided he’d had enough, prompting his departure from Saya.
While neither Fakhar nor Saya Corporation have openly confirmed the reasons, sources suggest that Fakhar may have felt the agency was not fully aligned with his interests, especially regarding his role in Pakistan’s team and his opinions on its direction.
