FIFA President Open to Drake Performing at 2026 World Cup

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has shown interest in Drake performing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following an idea suggested on Good Day New York. During an interview, host Rosanna Scotto proposed the rapper for the World Cup Halftime Show, citing his ongoing feud with Kendrick Lamar, who performed at Super Bowl LIX.

โ€œI have a great idea for you for the halftime,โ€ Scotto told Infantino. โ€œDrake. Because you were at the Super Bowlโ€”Kendrick Lamar dissed him at the Super Bowl.โ€ Infantino, intrigued by the idea, responded, โ€œSo we can create a bit of a rivalry?โ€ Scotto agreed, and Infantino replied, โ€œThatโ€™s a good idea. Actually, Drake was with us when we announced the host cities. I should have his number saved somewhere.โ€

Drake has previously shared his excitement for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will take place in Canada, the US, and Mexico. He also praised Toronto, where the opening match will be played on June 12, 2026. Fans reacted on social media, with some arguing that a Drake World Cup performance would be a bigger moment than Kendrick Lamarโ€™s Super Bowl show, while others, especially Americans, dismissed the idea.

While Drakeโ€™s performance is not confirmed, Coldplayโ€™s Chris Martin and Phil Harvey have been chosen to curate the first-ever FIFA World Cup Halftime Show, scheduled for July 19, 2026, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Infantino described it as a โ€œhistoric moment for the FIFA World Cup.โ€ With 1.6 billion viewers tuning into the World Cup final, a Drake performance could surpass the Super Bowlโ€™s 123 million audience, making it a major event for both sports and music.
