pcb-targets-shaheen-afridi-for-misconduct

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt recently expressed his frustration with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over their handling of an alleged altercation between star pacer Shaheen Afridi and batting coach Mohammad Yousuf before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Salman Butt’s Criticism

During a local media show appearance, Butt was asked about the management’s potential actions against Shaheen Afridi for his reported misconduct. He didn’t hold back, stressing that the management should have addressed the issue immediately instead of continuing to select Shaheen for every World Cup fixture.

“The time for taking action has passed. Since I wasn’t there with the team, I don’t know the full details. These are reports, and the people who provided them should have made a decision then and there,” Butt stated.

A Call for Decisive Action

Butt made it clear that if the management felt Shaheen was not following plans or cooperating, they should have taken a firm stance.

“If the management thought Shaheen wasn’t disciplined, they should have dropped him and chosen another player. But if they continued to play him despite these issues and are now complaining, it raises questions about their competence. What’s the point of having high-profile management with hefty salaries if they can’t take action?” Butt questioned.

Shaheen Afridi Misbehaved With Coach

Reports suggest the altercation between Shaheen and Mohammad Yousuf occurred during a net practice session at Headingley before the T20 World Cup 2024. Sources indicate that the incident was sparked when Yousuf pointed out Shaheen’s frequent no-balls.

Shaheen reportedly reacted angrily, telling Yousuf to let him practice without interference. The situation escalated into a heated exchange, but Shaheen later apologized to Yousuf.

The team management reprimanded Shaheen but ultimately closed the matter after his apology, deeming it a heat-of-the-moment incident.
