Google has started to promote Pakistan’s gaming and application development sector by rolling out two specific programs: the Google Design Masterclass and the Google Ads Academy. Revealing during the recent Think Apps 2024 meet in Lahore, these initiatives are visioned to give local developers the skills they need to create games that can compete with those of international quality, as well as use ads effectively.

At the same time, Google Ads Academy is expected to give them an understanding of how to earn money via advertising in Google’s network.
Pakistan’s gaming and app industry has shown remarkable growth recently. In a report by Access Partnership, the industry saw global downloads of locally-produced apps rise at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) to 32% from 2018 2023. This is in sharp contrast with a 50% increase in in-app purchase (IAP) income for 2023 despite the number of all app downloads dropped a slightly, placing Pakistan 17th on this planet in this sector.
Google’s investment in the Pakistani developer ecosystem reflects an avowed aim to unlock this nation’s digital export potential. By 2030 Pakistan might be earning an extra annual revenue of $6.6 billion through digital exports, with the gaming and app industry set to make a significant contribution.
Initiatives like the Google Ads Academy and Google App Academy, which have already engaged over 800 participants, support Pakistani developers in building sustainable businesses.
