Pantene Hum Bridal Couture Week has been all talks after Ali Xeeshan’s statement on Dowry in collaboration with UN Women. He had used a fashion show earlier to make a statement on child marriages as well by teaming up with Ali Rez. But there was something else noted at the Couture Week, and it was plagiarism! Haris Shakeel was accused of it.
Haris Shakeel and his Ghazal
The designer exhibited his collection ‘Ghazal’ at the Couture Week 2021. One of his dresses were worn by Sunita Marshall. It was a pretty dress, and well, the model knows how to carry a dress well too. The designer, Farah Talib Aziz, took to Instagram that this dress is not really an original.
Farah Talib Aziz With her Kalidar Angarkha
Farah Talib Aziz had posted a picture of her dress. Ayeza Khan had modeled for her back in 2019. It was the orchid purple that literally did embody luxury at its finest. She had made use of heritage gota, sheesha, and aari work in her kalidaar angarkha! โ
The designer accusing Shakeel of plagiarism, comments on Instagram, telling Haris Shakeel to be more original instead of ‘constantly’ copying her works.
Haris Shakeel is also one of the renowned designers in the country. He is based in Karachi and is categorized as one of the mid-range designers, although in this context, mid-range is relative considering not everyone can afford him either. But yes, compared to Farah Talib Aziz, he could be categorized as that.
For customers who love to showcase the designer’s name at their wedding, it may come as a shock if their FTA dress is called to have been bought from Haris Shakeel. Another designer, Zaheer Abbas, has also accused Haris Shakeel of such an act. He even compared the designer to Tariq Road and Ghausia Market Stores, saying he considers Haris to be at the same level. Now there is nothing wrong with buying from these markets, but it must be quite a demeaning comment within the designer fraternity.
Haris Shakeel however, has denied the accusation saying that the only thing similar between the two dresses is the color.
