Rumors can spread like wildfire, especially in the world of cricket. This week, Pakistan’s middle-order batter Haris Sohail found himself at the center of baseless retirement chatter. But the experienced cricketer didn’t waste any time clearing the air.

In a statement on Thursday, Haris called the rumors “baseless” and expressed his frustration over the false news circulating on social media.

“I have not made any decision to retire, nor do I have any such intention,” Haris clarified firmly. “My full focus is on continuing to play the game that I love.”

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also confirmed that they had not received any official communication about his retirement. In fact, a PCB official reportedly spoke with Haris, and he completely denied the speculation.

Haris Sohail: A Career of Ups and Downs

Haris Sohail’s cricketing journey has been one of highs and challenges. Since making his debut in 2013, he has represented Pakistan in 16 Tests, 45 ODIs, and 14 T20Is. Over the years, he’s scored 2,806 runs across formats, including four centuries and 17 half-centuries.

His last appearance for Pakistan came in January 2023, during a home ODI series against New Zealand. It was a second chance for Haris, thanks to then-chief selector Shahid Afridi, who believed in his potential.

Unfortunately, Haris couldn’t make the most of the opportunity. Scores of 32, 10, and 22 in three matches raised questions about his form. Despite this, he was retained for another series against New Zealand in April.

But fate had other plans. Haris sustained an injury on the eve of the first ODI, ruling him out of the entire series. Since then, his journey back into the national team has faced hurdles, but retirement? That’s clearly not on his mind.

Despite the setbacks, Haris seems determined to make a comeback. His experience and ability to anchor an innings are assets Pakistan could use in their middle order. The question is: will the selectors give him another chance? Only time will tell, but one thing is clear—Haris Sohail isn’t ready to hang up his boots just yet.
