The Sindh Excise and Taxation Department announced new prices for several vehicles under the Finance (Supplementary) Act, 2022. These new prices are set to become the new (and one of many) thorns in our sides. Is this a never-ending accelerating curve or just a temporary rise? Let’s find out.
What Happened?
The taxation department announced that the provincial government has made changes. They have increased the tax on vehicles with higher engine capacity. The general markup on these cars is excessive for sure.Â
The tax levied on cars over 1000cc has doubled: it is now Rs. 100,000 from Rs. 50,000. Moreover, the tax on vehicles ranging from 1001cc to 2000cc increased to Rs. 200,000 compared to the previous Rs100,000. Lastly, 2001cc and above vehicles come with the tax of Rs. 400,000.
Suzuki’s Price
The Suzuki Alto VX is a common car we see on our roads. However, the time has come when it will become rare too. Its price in Pakistan has been increased by Rs 32,000. This brings its price to Rs. 1,306,000 from the previous price of Rs. 1,274,000.Â
The Suzuki Cultus VXR will have a price hike of Rs126,000. Now its price is Rs2,030,000 from the previous price of Rs1,904,000. Similarly, Suzuki Cultus VXL price in Pakistan has gone up to Rs. 2,105,000 from Rs139,000.
Suzuki Cultus tax is 200,000? This is insane. This is extortion not taxation.
