Sanam Jung has come back to the small screen with her latest drama ‘Pyari Mona’. The drama series follows the story of a girl who is being ridiculed for being overweight by her friends, family, and society in general. Initially, her role was met with major backlash since according to netizens Jung wasn’t an appropriate role for the story. However, her recent interview sheds light on why and how she managed to put herself in the shoes of her character making the experience even more relatable.
Sanam Jung In Pyari Mona
Sanam Jung was cast in the role of Mona after she was offered the role for the second time. Initially, the actress declined the project while thinking about society and what would people think of her. However, according to her she later realized that she shouldn’t give into the dilemma of ‘Log Kia Kahen Gay’ and must do what her heart desires.
While talking about her role in Pyari Mona, the actress noted.
“When I got offered the role for the second time, I realized this is my story. I have been through the same not by my family of course but by society. I realized this is a very important story for me and I shouldn’t say ‘No’ to it. This play was different and message-oriented and the moment I read her story I fell in love with her.”

While talking about her fear of what would people say, the actress noted that she wanted to get out of this.
“I want people to watch this and understand that this was not easy. Mona’s life is not easy and there are many Mona’s like me. I had this problem that what would people think about me. but later I learned that there is no point in worrying about that.”
Sanam’s Experience With Social Media TrollingÂ
While talking about her experience with social media trolling the actress mentioned she went through the same, especially when she gained weight after her daughter was born.
“I was working and didn’t stop working after giving birth to my daughter. Pictures were going around on social media every day and people would comment things like ‘cow’ and ‘fatty’ and things like ‘why are you working on TV?’ Then I talked to my husband and the company that I didn’t want to work anymore because I was embarrassed. I was a new mother, and I went through a tough phase, but my family supported me through all of it and it gave me courage.”
She also discussed her way while preparing for the role saying that she had to put on almost 8kgs to fit the role of Mona. It was very uncomfortable to do a lot of things, but she even learned how to ride a scooty in the middle of Lahore.
